Your First Core Solidity Smart Contract

Duration: NaN:NaN:NaN

Speaker: Jacob Czepluch

Type: Workshop

Expertise: Some familiarity with the topic

Event: Devcon

Date: Nov 2026

Solidity has been in production for more than 11 years, and when it was initially designed, no one had any idea how smart contracts would evolve and what requirements there would be for the language 10 years later. This has resulted in the language mostly doing patches to add new features and relying on the compiler to implement new features through pre-compiles. Each new feature introduces new vectors where bugs can appear. Instead of fixing the language and introducing several breaking releases that take years, we are developing Core Solidity, a modern take on what a smart contract language should look like in 2026, while still feeling very familiar to developers. In this workshop, we will go through a full smart contract example that showcases most of the new language features, and the participants will leave the workshop with a working Core Solidity example that they can use as a starting point and reference for their own projects moving forward.
