The Zero Option Is Possible: Trustless Ethereum on a Phone, Without RPC

Duration: NaN:NaN:NaN

Speaker: Dirk Jäckel

Type: Talk

Expertise: Some familiarity with the topic

Event: Devcon

Date: Nov 2026

The EF Mandate requires a "zero option": wherever an intermediary-free path is possible, it must be built. For chain access, that path now exists. Myotis is an open-source light client for Android, iOS and desktop, as standalone app or embedded SDK: BLS sync-committee verification anchors beacon headers, state is fetched from peers over devp2p/SNAP and checked with Merkle-Patricia proofs. No RPC provider in the loop. The talk covers the following, with a live demo if connectivity allows: - Living inside the weak-subjectivity window on a phone that sleeps - Which trust assumptions remain (checkpoint, bootnodes, peer availability) and how to shrink them - What doesn't work yet: log queries (log index bundling) and historical data access - Truly permissionless: apps built on Myotis need no API keys, accounts or rate-limit deals Users leave knowing how to install Myotis and point their wallet at it instead of their usual RPC provider; developers, how to drop RPC from their app.
