The Role of the Public Mempool in CROPS Ethereum

Duration: NaN:NaN:NaN

Speaker: Csaba

Type: Talk

Expertise: Some familiarity with the topic

Event: Devcon

Date: Nov 2026

Long neglected as an off-chain layer, the Ethereum mempool is experiencing a major research resurgence. It sits at the core of Ethereum’s CROPS framework, serving as the primary public, permissionless gateway for Censorship Resistance (CR) and enabling true Privacy (P), especially when running your own node. Proposals like FOCIL, post-quantum mempools, recursive aggregation, frame transactions, and encrypted mempools aim to fundamentally redefine the pool. Yet, real-time visibility into actual mempool dynamics remains surprisingly lacking across the ecosystem. This talk explores the evolving mempool landscape and introduces Mempool-Lens, a web UI powered by a Geth extension to visualize mempool activity live. We’ll examine upcoming protocol upgrades, analyze live pool behavior, and make the case for running your own node: a setup costing less than a Netflix subscription that restores sovereign, private read and write access to Ethereum.
