Slang: A faster, better-optimizing Solidity compiler

Duration: NaN:NaN:NaN

Speaker: Bas van Gijzel

Type: Talk

Expertise: Some familiarity with the topic

Event: Devcon

Date: Nov 2026

At Nomic Foundation, we’ve been working on an alternative Solidity compiler for the last few years. Our goals are to provide a faster, better optimizing compiler, with better devtools integration , in order to improve the Ethereum developer experience. Last year, we brought the solx team and project (originally from Matter Labs) into Nomic, which resulted in a strong foundation to complete the remaining pieces of the end-to-end compiler. We now have a preliminary version of an alternative Solidity compiler based on LLVM, which already shows promising results in compilation speed and gas costs optimization. In this talk we want to present this compiler to the Ethereum community for the first time, walk them through the history of the project, its current status, and show them how to get started with Slang to take advantage of faster compile times - at the moment in their test suites.
