Flutter Meets Hardware: LED Badges, ePaper and Pocket Science Lab

Duration: NaN:NaN:NaN

Speaker: Dhruv Rastogi

Type: CLS - Lightning Talk (Open Tech Summit)

Expertise:

Event: Devcon

Date: Nov 2026

How can a Flutter application interact with an ePaper display, control an LED badge, or visualize real-time scientific measurements? In this lightning talk, I’ll explore FOSSASIA’s open-source Flutter applications: Magic ePaper, Badge Magic, and PSLab. These projects demonstrate how Flutter can be used to create applications that connect digital experiences with physical hardware. Magic ePaper allows users to create and transfer designs to ePaper badges using NFC. Badge Magic enables users to create and customize LED badge animations through a mobile or desktop interface. PSLab brings scientific experimentation to connected devices, including real-time signal visualization through an oscilloscope. I’ll discuss the purpose of these projects, how they have evolved through open-source collaboration, and the technical concepts involved in building Flutter applications for hardware interaction. We’ll also look at the challenges of working with technologies such as NFC, Bluetooth, and device communication. This talk offers a glimpse into how Flutter and open source come together to build practical, creative hardware-connected applications.
