EIP-8304: Trustless log and transaction index in Geth

Duration: NaN:NaN:NaN

Speaker: Vansh Sahay

Type: CLS - EPF Talk

Expertise: Some familiarity with the topic

Event: Devcon

Date: Nov 2026

Every log query today runs on trust, dashboards, indexers and commercial RPCs assume the serving node is honest, nothing in a response is provable. Light clients cannot verify completeness, selective omission goes unnoticed. EIP-8304 builds an index into the protocol, a system contract called each block commits transactions and logs as sorted, variable-length entries into chained SSZ-merkleized tables, staggered merges keep per-block work and storage incremental. The index unlocks trustless log queries with inclusion, exclusion and completeness proofs for light clients
