Decentralized Media

Duration: NaN:NaN:NaN

Speaker: Migle Rakitaite

Type: Lightning Talk

Expertise: Some familiarity with the topic

Event: Devcon

Date: Nov 2026

When a journalist’s archive disappears, a scientific dataset becomes inaccessible or an algorithm buries testimony the loss affects who can speak, what society can verify, and which histories survive. From samizdat and pirate radio to Indymedia, DeSci and content addressed storage, this talk traces decentralised media as a response to concentrated control over knowledge. It introduces five tests: permissionless publication, persistence, portability, discoverability, and governance for judging whether infrastructure protects human digital rights or merely relocates power. Ethereum made credible neutrality tangible for value; the next challenge is extending similar guarantees to reporting, research and cultural memory. Using decentralised frontends and existing use case studies, the talk examines what infrastructure can protect, where control resurfaces through gateways and moderation, and what builders must solve before access to knowledge becomes more than a revocable platform promise.
