Building Through Constraints: A Decade of Web3 in Iran

Duration: NaN:NaN:NaN

Speaker: Fatemeh Fannizadeh, Shayan Eskandari

Type: Panel

Expertise: No prior knowledge

Event: Devcon

Date: Nov 2026

For many Iranians, Web3 has been less a theory than a practical tool for participation: a way to build, exchange value, collaborate internationally, and remain connected to a global ecosystem. This roundtable explores a decade of lived experience, focusing on the ingenuity, adaptations, and community practices that emerged under sanctions, censorship, platform restrictions, and unreliable connectivity. Participants will examine which tools proved most useful, how communities navigated barriers, where decentralised infrastructure created real opportunities, and what the broader Ethereum ecosystem can learn from these experiences. The session will invite contributions from other regions facing similar constraints and conclude with concrete design principles for making Web3 more resilient, inclusive, and globally accessible.
