Building For Generations

Duration: NaN:NaN:NaN

Speaker: Wendell Davis

Type: Talk

Expertise: No prior knowledge

Event: Devcon

Date: Nov 2026

Properties of Generational Infrastructure: 1. Minimal base layer 2. Provable integrity 3. Inheritability 4. Credible exit 5. Respect for agency We'll look at the long history of variably successful attempts to create technology that embodies these properties; where they have stumbled; why open source is not enough; Ethereum's place in this history; and the richness and value that could be added to the Ethereum ecosystem in a future scaffolded by Generational Infrastructure. The early days of computer technology were a Cambrian explosion of creativity and possibility, but the possibilities that won out were the ones that could give rise to monopolies through superior capital and the labor it could buy. Over decades of consolidation and capture, we have come to accept what *is* as what *must be*. The truth is that we only need to (re)learn to see what is possible, and we have everything we need to create a truly sovereign future.
