HTTP 402 "Payment Required" sat dormant in the web spec for 30 years. In 2026, Coinbase and Cloudflare revived it as x402, and Cloudflare has since shipped programmable Wallets and a Monetization Gateway that let any API charge AI agents per request in stablecoins — no accounts, no API keys.
Most engineers building "agentic" apps are still wiring in OAuth and manual billing — patterns that don't scale to autonomous, machine-to-machine commerce. Few have hands-on experience with the actual x402 flow: 402 challenge, signed payment payload, facilitator verification, on-chain settlement.
In this workshop we live-code an agent that requests a paywalled resource, receives a 402 challenge, signs an x402 payment, and gets served — all on Cloudflare Workers. We'll cover wallet setup, spending guardrails, and facilitator verification.
