Anonymity Is Censorship Resistance: Efficient Anonymous Broadcast Under Censorship

Duration: NaN:NaN:NaN

Speaker: Mateusz Morusiewicz

Type: Talk

Expertise: Some familiarity with the topic

Event: Devcon

Date: Nov 2026

Anonymous broadcast, that is everyone publishes but nobody learns who sent what, is now practical for use in anonymizing Ethereum's mempool. There are two aspects of censorship resistance that are so far overlooked. One is how anonymity positively impacts censorship resistance, in particular selective economic censorship resistance in coompetitive protocols. The other is, more crucially, how censorship resistance is absolutely necessary for anonymity. The main take away is that there is no censorship resistance without anonymity, and there is no anonymity without censorship resistance. You need a protocol that does both. I will introduce and use [Panetiere](https://net.flashbots.net/) as an example setting for the talk, that is how censorship breaks that protocol.
